Often, I’m asked ‘ What is Paneer?’ and ‘How different is it from Tofu?’

Just thought i’d write a few lines on the difference between the two :

Paneer is a type of Indian cottage cheese and is loved by Indians.

Paneer is derived from the milk of animals like goat, cow and buffalo and warm milk is then curdled with food acids like lemon juice or vinegar and sometimes sour yogurt.

Tofu is a cheese made from soy milk. It is formed by soy bean milk.

Paneer can easily be made at home by curdling milk while the preparation of tofu is not as simple.

Both are rich sources of protein. However, Tofu is much lower on fat.

They can be often be used inter-changeably in dishes due to their similar texture and properties.
